The best part about fall in Wyoming, is that for these few short weeks, we get to enjoy cooler temps and vibrant autumn colors. As an avid outdoor community, we greatly value our mountain sports, but in the fall jetting up the mountain for a quick bike ride after work becomes much harder. Fortunately, we have three Casper bike trails as part of our trail network that offer quick, convenient access and stunning autumn views. Platte River Trail Any time you can combine fall foliage, the North Platte River, and Casper Mountain, you won’t be disappointed. The Platte River Trail offers all this and more (including a full trail exercise area!) with 11 miles of paved pathway perfect for an after-work or weekend bike ride. Whether you begin at the east end near the North Casper Sports Complex, or the west end in Paradise Valley, the Platte River Trail weaves through Casper, taking you through towering trees with vibrant orange and yellow leaves. Don’t forget to stop and take in the views of Casper Mountain framed by the fall colors as you ride through Morad Park or pass by the Tate Pumphouse and Amoco Park. Casper Rail Trail Looking for a bike trail that doubles as a route to work or happy hour? The Casper Rail Trail offers a combo of six miles of smooth, paved pathway from downtown Casper to soft surface trails at Hat Six on the far east end of town. This trail is great for an evening bike ride to enjoy the fall colors as they flank the historic downtown buildings. However, if you’re simply looking for things to do in Casper, Wyoming, hop on the trail and ride downtown to find local restaurants, shops, drinkeries, and more. For an even longer ride, use the Rail Trail to connect to the Platte River Trail, which offers a riverside route perfect for this time of year. Casper Mountain Road Trail Quickly becoming a favorite bike trail in Casper, the Casper Mountain Road Trail is 3.8 miles of downhill fun if you start from its southernmost point at the base of the mountain and head toward downtown, where it connects to the Casper Rail Trail. Riding north to south offers hundreds of feet in elevation gain, burning calves, and views of bright, yellow aspen groves dotted throughout Casper Mountain. Considering its close proximity to town, this trail provides both convenience and a more challenging ride depending on the direction you take. Plus, as winter approaches, this trail makes a great year-round trail thanks to its eastern exposure, allowing the sunlight to melt the ice and snow due to the blacktop surface. Ready to ride? Check out our Casper Mountain Trail Map to plan your route. These three Casper bike trails increase access to outdoor recreation and non-motorized transportation even during the cooler months. Fall is here, but it certainly won’t stay long, so grab your bike, plan your ride using our Platte River Trail Map, and hit the trails to enjoy the stunning autumn views before they’re gone!
