28 years ago, Platte River Trails held the first Riverfest event in Casper, celebrating the completion of the newest section of the River Trail. The decision to cancel this year’s event was a very tough one for Platte River Trails Trust to make; as we’ll not only miss the chance to gather with our community to celebrate our trail building successes, we’re also going to miss the financial support this event provides our organization. Platte River Trails welcomed Rotary Club of Casper’s Great Duck Derby to Riverfest in 2000 and the event that had already included craft beer tasting, live music, delicious food trucks, and all kinds of family fun added throughout the years now had one more exciting element. Aside from a beloved community event, Riverfest is also the biggest fundraising event for Platte River Trails and a chance to celebrate the River Trail and the North Platte River corridor.
The inaugural year of Platte River Trails newest program, Art for the Trails, kicked off last Friday, July 10th with a successful Opening Reception at the Tate Pumphouse! From 5pm – 8 pm, ticketed guests enjoyed music by the Corey McDaniel Duo, drinks from Urban Bottle, delicious bites from Ludovico's and Papa's Pork Chops, and the company of fellow art lovers and trail supporters.
Trails have proven to be a valuable resource for our community in the last few months. We have seen unparalleled trail usership and feel certain that the benefit of trails is more evident than ever. The PRTT is pleased to share that our work has continued through these uncertain times and we are poised to move forward with several trail projects this summer and fall.
Feels like we have been waiting a long time to say this….Spring has finally sprung in Casper! As Platte River Trails prepares for the busy summer season, we want to welcome you to explore ALL the trails our great community offers and share two exciting events to kick off this exciting time.
There’s not doubt that our personal and professional lives have changed dramatically in recent weeks. While many businesses, public gatherings, and events have been closed or canceled, we wanted to update our incredible supporters, donors, trail advocates and users on our ongoing trail efforts in and around Casper.
The Platte River Trails Trust, in partnership with ART 321, is calling for artists to submit works of any medium for our new “Art for the Trails” program, kicking off July 10th in Casper. From weaving and welding to ceramics, painting and metalwork, all variations are encouraged to add creative and artistic expression to the enjoyment of our community trails.
